The flight was through Dallas/ Fort Worth with a plane change. Everything went very smoothly. Total travel time was 8 hours. Entry to San Salvador, El Salvador (the Savior) was very smooth. I sat next to one of the other travelers from the OAT tour, who had some difficulty with lost luggage, but the problem was solved.
I met up with Carlos, the OAT tour leader who took me into town in a car with a driver. It was dark when I arrived, so I didn't see much, but noted that the infrastructure (roads, electricity, etc.) was better than I expected, especially after visiting Tanzania. San Salvador was built in a valley at the foot of a volcano which last erupted in 1917. They call it the Valley of the Hammocks as it is slung low between the mountains and moves easily because of the many earthquake tremors.
We arrived at the Alicante Internacional Hotel in a quiet neighborhood, and being tired from the trip, I skipped dinner (although I really wanted to try the local specialty-pupusas) and went to the room. It was a nice hotel with a pool, wifi, tv, and a breakfast buffet. The room was nice with 2 double beds. It is interesting that in all of the houses and hotels, that the sewage treatment and plumbing system is poor, so you can not put any paper in the toilets, including toilet paper-there is a waste basket near the toilet.
